«another notable release from the ever-impressive spezialmaterial stable straight out of the electronic hub that is Switzerland.
characterised by the label›s affliction for strong melodic techno long abandoned by current trends, this goes to show that there are artists whose strong composition skills will always outdo technical trickery. words like ‹glacial› are thrown about often in reference to music of this ilk, but this album really does make you feel cold. the aforementioned use of melodies and structures reminded me of early tangerine dream work. fusing this with up-to-theminute dsp beats cannot claim to be original by any stretch of the imagination. but it
works. ‹dro› builds over a timeline; ghostly orchestration smother the cracked beats and left-of-centre rifs. ‹mixed media› has more interesting ideas at work with reconstructed jazz battling against shards of percussion and extremely fucked up frequencies. ouch! but
routines like ‹turbo daily› do sound like techno by numbers or just passable demo›s. ‹hacki› almost updates the old-school sheffield bleep aesthetic for the noughties and is quite fun.
after repeated listens, one is reminded of the album that brothomstates released on warp a while back (‹claro›) but maybe this is more to do with it›s european influenced sound. worthy, slick and perfect travelling music but not without its flaws, all you
gotta do is find a copy.»
